Testimonials

In the classes at the dojang, students are expected to keep a notebook and make every attempt to attend regularly.  The programs are rank-based and are structured so that the student compounds the material learned.  Over time, the student will become fluid and proficient in a wider range of techniques and concepts.  The student will undergo a series of strict physical training with the blended reassurance of our tradition and centuries-old wisdom and training methods.

Dear Parents:

We’ve been having great response with our Black Belt Club promotion during the season and we would like everyone to take advantage of the wonderful savings we are offering.  Several parents have asked me what the benefits for joining the Black Belt Club are and I would like to share some of those questions with you.

Q: Why do I need to think about this now?

A: 100% of our Black Belts made a DEFINTE-----UNSHAKEABLE commitment to be a Black Belt by the time they received their Orange Belt.

When you enroll you are just “testing the waters”. That’s okay for the first 3-6 months, but without a definite long-term goal, your effectiveness and “stick-to-it-liveness” will wane.

Think about it for a second-----is Black Belt a really BIG goal? It’s a really big goal isn’t it? Fewer people get their Black Belt each year than get a PHD or go to an IVY League College.

If you are going to achieve a really BIG Goal----like Black Belt-----it’s important to develop an unshakable desire, to put all of the pieces in place, and to make the definite Commitment now to achieve it.  It’s important co commit to us and yourself now.  We will then help you by providing extracurricular activities, special help sessions, and the motivation to go all the way.

Every student goes through his or her first progress evaluation at White Belt.  If they are “A” rate and committed, if we are committed to their progress and approve them to Black Belt, and if their parents are will to take on the commitment------then the student is approved to Black Belt Club and accepted into Black Belt Club.

If any aspect is missing at White Belt, we review again during Orange Belt.  Anyone who is not approved for and enrolled to Black Belt and Beyond by Orange Belt is assumed to be in Tae  Kwon-Do for only our trial enrollment (through Yellow Belt) and then on to other activities.

“Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness…”

Q: Okay, I’m fine with my child making a commitment,

but why do the parents have to?

A: It’s great to think that you can sit back and say, “I’ll support my child as long as they want to do it---but, I don’t want to make a real commitment (financial, contractual, physical, etc.)”

…But again, think about it:

Do you have an explicit or at least implicit family

agreement that your child is going to finish school?

Why is this different?

In a word, Priorities.

Our program is DEVELOPMENTAL, not recreational.

If you looked back in six years and your child was a 2nd Degree Black Belt

(And all of the things that implies):

1) A leader 2) Straight “A” Student 3) Disciplined 4) Able to set any goal---and maintain it.

WOULD IT HAVE BEEN WORTH THE TIME EFFORT AND EXPENSE?

You bet it would!

The reality is for your child to attain a REALLY BIG GOAL required several things---

One is your parental leadership and support.

Q: I don’t want to ever have to drag my child kicking and screaming to

Tae Kwon-Do “just because I made a financial commitment.”

A: I guarantee you that if you work with us----that will never happen.

What will happen is that your child’s interest will generally grow, with ups and downs due to a variety of factors----most of them having nothing to do with Tae Kwon-Do.

If their motivations wane, we will work with you immediately to respark their interest and renew their goals.  This is only effective if you help us keep your child on track and discover what has lead to a down spot.

Motivation gaps happen for a few simple reasons:

  1. Progress- If a child does not perceive that they are making progress relative to their own standards or relative to those around them then they can often become discouraged. If allowed to quit at that point, they have learned a very unfortunate lesson---When things get difficult, give up.

We hope to develop winners not losers.  The lesson that we hope to teach is---when things get difficult, regroup, find help, solve the problem and succeed.  We will work with your child in every way possible to get them over that hump, with your support.

  1. Interpersonal Misunderstandings or Problems- Often a student will become discouraged because of interpersonal concerns with fellow students or because of a real or perceived sight from the instructor.  If we know about these situations, we will work to solve them---right away.  Left unchecked they can lead to failure and again an unfortunate lesson in failure.  The best lesson is to learn how to cope with people problems and to solve interpersonal disputes or concerns quickly and effectively. Again student/teacher cooperation leads to success in this and in any endeavor

A Myriad of Strange and Easily Solvable Issues- We’ve had children who were afraid to come back because they lost their Tae  Kwon-Do pants and didn’t want to tell anyone or they misunderstood directions about sparring, testing, etc. With communication all of these things are easily solvable.

  1. Distractions- Summer is a prime time for the pool, outdoor activities, vacations, etc.  To become a distraction and disrupt a child’s training. Your leadership in making sure that priorities are balanced will insure quality follow-through and high achievement.

With our three-sided commitment-----Parents, Child and Instructor, we guarantee that your child will achieve their goals and you will be enthusiastic about the results!

Finances:

Q: I can’t afford to make two payments. Why do I have to pay for my current program plus Black Belt Club?

A: You don’t.  We cancel your old program payments, and you have just one payment that includes both.

Q: I’ve heard that Black Belt Club is really expensive. Why can’t I just keep paying what I’m paying now?

A: Really, on a monthly or on a per lesson basis, Black Belt Club is less expensive than a trial enrollment.

 But think for a second….

What’s more valuable? An Advanced Class or a Beginning Class?

What’s more valuable? A 45-minute Beginning class or a 1 hour Advanced Class?

If you commit now, you receive extra classes, you have access to special and extra events, and you will eventually be taking classes taught at a much higher level----that are much more valuable----for less than you are paying now, because you made the commitment for your own development.

Q: I can’t pay the whole thing up front.

Does that mean I can’t be a Black Belt Club Member?

A: Most of our students budget their tuition per month. If you want to pay it up front, we give a substantial discount for doing so. But many people can’t do that and then pay their tuition monthly.

Success Skills and Goal Setting:

Q: Why are we wearing Black Belts and taking pictures this month?

A: We hope to teach success skills. Among these are:

1.     Positive Self talk

2.     Goal Setting Skills. The ability to set and achieve goals.

3.     Visualization Strategies

4.     Developing a Positive Belief System and Positive Self-Efficacy

During the program we will teach many steps to goal setting and achievement.  The first step is developing the ability to really believe that you are capable of achieving the goal and creating a goal is empowering enough to create drive and motivation.

Please call us now and schedule a progress update or follow-up. We will see if you child qualifies for Black Belt Club, and if it makes sense for your family.

Q: What do you mean by qualifying?

A: Honestly, we’ve been in the business of running Tae  Kwon-Do schools for a very long time. Grandmaster Kang’s Tae-Kwon Do School began in 1971.

Grandmaster Kang began teaching over 35 years ago!

We recognize that by setting a goal to Black Belt that we are admitting a family into our Tae Kwon-Do family.

Just as it is important for HARVARD or nay other high level university to monitor their student mix, we evaluate several things:

First, will this family enhance or detract from the learning experience offered to our other students?

Second, do we want to work with this student and family for literally 500 or more classes over the next 5+ years?

Third, do we like and care about this student and family enough to go above and beyond and insure their success?

We really don’t want students who will not enhance our school, or who we don’t honestly feel can succeed in our program.

Q: Who shouldn’t or can’t do Black Belt Club?

1st.  A trial enrollment is 6 months. If you are likely to move out of the metropolitan area within that time, then Black Belt Club makes no sense.

2nd. Students who do not qualify will not be allowed to join Black Belt Club.

A.     We require 100% parent and child support.  If we do no have that support then

Black Belt Club is not an option.  Although the program is DEVELOPMENTAL if we find a child or family that we believe to be incapable of achieving Black Belt then we will not consider Black Belt Club.  We are very honest in this evaluation.

After all WE are also making a commitment to get your child to

BLACK BELT AND BEYOND.

B.     Situations where the child cannot expect support from the parents
