Code of Conduct:

All students must understand these rules before signing up for training. Studen= ts should learn and remember these rules that constitute proper dojang behavior and are essential to maintaining a safe and positive training environment. = The dojang is much more than a "training hall." It is the place where= the spirit is forged through rigorous physical conditioning, self-discipline and introspection (looking within). The dojang has its own culture and it takes time to learn the proper procedures and rules. You should ask any Kyo Sa me= mber if you have any questions. Students must approach and correct others not abiding by the dojang rules, but this needs to be done in a non-demeaning a= nd courteous manner. Anyone who violates these rules will be subject to disciplinary action (including suspension, revocation and or expulsion) as = directed by Sa Bom Nim.

Basic Etiquette

Bowing in the dojang has no religious connotations. The Korean and Japanese culture greet each other by bowing. Bowing can also have the functions of thanking and apologizing. Bow= ing may range from a small nod of the head to a long 90-degree formal bow. You = are supposed to bow deeper and longer than your opposite if they are of higher status than you are. Your back and neck should be kept straight while bowin= g.  Standing is a half bow, and on the ground is a full bow.

Dojang Restrictions

Do not wear rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, soc= ks, anklets, nose/ear studs, watches, neck chains, or any metallic articles during class.  Wedding bands are okay.&nbs= p;

Do not smoke, chew gum or eat candy or food while in t= he dojang.  Outside food and dr= ink is not allowed.

All students share in the responsibility for keeping t= he dojang safe and clean.

Please arrive at least a half of= an hour earlier to prepare targets and get changed so that training can begi= n on time.

Every student should help clean the dojang floor and mirrors after each class.

Never let a student with higher seniority work harder = than you.

Never leave clothing or valuables of any type in the d= ojang. We will not be responsible for these articles if lost or stolen.  There is a lost and found in the= first locker of each dressing room.  It will be recycled each week.

 

Rank

Rank testing is a privilege, not a  formality. Students must be prepa= red to not pass.

There are minimum time periods between rankings. Howev= er, training for the minimum time period does not entitle the student to prom= otion. Many factors are involved in promotions such as time in rank, attendance, technique, teaching ability, helpfulness, attitude, courtesy, effort, contributions to the art, etc.

Never request to be tested or promoted. Sa Bom Nim will let you know when you will be tested or have been promoted. If you ask for promotion "you will cease to exist." This means that Sa Bom Nim will see you but not see you.

Accept a promotion with a sense of increased responsibility to your fellow students.

 

Testing / Gradua= tion

 

Every two months, the entire color belt population is ex= pected to graduate onto the next rank.  During graduation, the new rank will be awarded along with any other certificates and awards.  Date= s for graduation is posted on the website and is available at the office. 

 

Curriculum Strip= es

 

The system of curriculum stripes is awarded on a bi-week= ly basis.  When a student underst= ands and is able to perform the material taught in the class and as described in= the curriculum, he will be awarded a curriculum stripe.   It is imperative for student= s to attend class in order to receive his curriculum stripe.  If a student missed the chance to = earn his stripe, the only choice is to wait until the next cycle to graduate. 

 

Attendance Card<= o:p>

 

The attendance card goes hand-in-hand with the student’s progress.  The student is responsible for pic= king up his attendance card at the front counter before class.  The instructor refers to the card = in class to see what the status of the student is.  If the student is lacking in any a= rea, the instructor will recommend a private lesson to be scheduled.  The student may not make any marks= on the card.  It is the instructor’s job to check and make sure the student is learning prope= rly so as to give the necessary credit on the card.

White

Represents the INNOCENC= E of the beginner who does not yet have any knowledge of TaeKwon-Do=

Yellow:

Represents the EARTH in which the seed of is planted, symbolizing a student's desire for skill.

Green:

Represents a GROWING PL= ANT, symbolizing the student's abilities as they start to take root.

Blue:

Represents the SKY towa= rds which the student is reaching, as the student attempts to reach beyond competence to excellence. 

Red:
